Your Child & Family Are Our Priority:

Our entire application process informs our Treatment Planning and ultimately guarantees that your child’s treatment goals are appropriate, essential, and likely to be achieved. The more we know about your child prior to treatment initiation, the better!

At FirstSteps, we know that a comprehensive assessment is critical to understanding your child’s and family’s needs. As such, your FirstSteps experience will begin with our clinicians assessing your child’s interests, preferences, and strengths. We will then take the time to understand WHY they engage in particular behaviors that are of concern to you or them (often it is to communicate!) and HOW we can help replace those behaviors with skills that make life easier and more joyful.

At FirstSteps, we understand kids and prioritize a comprehensive assessment process to ensure we understand their full needs. Your FirstSteps experience will begin with our clinicians assessing your child’s interests, preferences, and strengths. We will then take the time to understand WHY they engage in particular behaviors that are of concern to you or them (often it is to communicate!) and HOW we can replace those behaviors with new and socially meaningful skills.  By understanding the WHY, we are able to teach your child new ways to express their needs in a manner that makes their lives easier and facilitates the development of positive social relationships.

3 INTAKE ASSESSMENT

All new FirstSteps families will participate in an Intake Assessment. The Intake Assessment is comprised of a parent interview, child observation(s), and direct assessment of your child's current skills and current adaptive functioning. Determining your child's "baseline" or pre-treatment skills and behaviors will enable us to begin building your child's unique treatment plan and measure its impact over time.
